Ada Palmer is an American historian and fantasy author whose Terra Ignota series is one of the most ambitious and intellectually demanding science fiction series of the twenty-first century. Too Like the Lightning imagines a future 2454 in which nation-states have been replaced by voluntary Hives and questions of religion and gender are deeply contested. Her baroque intellectual style is unlike anything else in the genre.
