Alfred Bester was an American science fiction author whose two major novels The Demolished Man and The Stars My Destination are considered classics of psychological science fiction. The Stars My Destination, a reworking of The Count of Monte Cristo in a future where teleportation is possible, is widely regarded as one of the greatest SF novels ever written. His influence on cyberpunk was profound.
