Arthur C. Clarke was a British science fiction author and futurist celebrated for his hard SF vision and his collaboration with Stanley Kubrick on 2001: A Space Odyssey. He famously proposed the concept of geostationary communication satellites years before they were built. His fiction combined rigorous scientific extrapolation with a sense of cosmic wonder.
