Arthur Upfield

Arthur Upfield was an English-Australian crime writer who created Napoleon Bonaparte, a Queensland detective of mixed Aboriginal and white ancestry, in one of the first crime series to engage seriously with Aboriginal Australian culture. His novels used the unique Australian outback setting to create atmosphere unlike any other crime series. His work is now also valued as an ethnographic record of disappearing Aboriginal traditions.
