Augustine of Hippo
The most influential theologian of Western Christianity, Augustine synthesized Neoplatonic philosophy with Christian doctrine in works that shaped Catholic and Protestant thought for fifteen centuries. Confessions is the first great autobiography in Western literature. The City of God created the framework for medieval political theology.
