Averroes Ibn Rushd
Andalusian philosopher whose extensive commentaries on Aristotle earned him the title 'The Commentator' in medieval Europe. His defense of philosophy against Al-Ghazali's attacks sparked the most important intellectual controversy in medieval Islamic thought. Through his commentaries, Aristotelianism was reintroduced to Western scholasticism.
