Avram Davidson was an American author of science fiction, fantasy, and historical fiction known for his erudite, eccentric, and deeply humane work. The Phoenix and the Mirror and Vergil in Averno are celebrated fantasies drawing on classical history. He won the Hugo and Edgar Awards and was a deeply original voice.
