C.L. Moore was a pioneering American science fiction and fantasy author who wrote under her initials to conceal her gender in the male-dominated pulp fiction market of the 1930s. Her Jirel of Joiry stories featuring the first female sword and sorcery hero were groundbreaking. She also wrote the Northwest Smith space adventure series and collaborated extensively with her husband Henry Kuttner.
