David Goodis was an American pulp fiction writer whose bleak, beautifully written novels of losers, drifters, and men in desperate flight from their pasts defined a specific strain of American noir. Dark Passage and Down There were adapted into films, and his reputation has grown steadily since his death. He is considered one of the most literary writers of pulp crime fiction.
