Derek Walcott

Saint Lucian poet and playwright who won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1992 for his Caribbean epic Omeros, a reimagining of Homer's Odyssey in the Caribbean landscape. He synthesized English and Caribbean oral traditions in verse of immense formal mastery.
