Edward O. Wilson
American biologist who founded sociobiology, the application of evolutionary theory to social behavior. The Ants won the Pulitzer Prize; The Diversity of Life made the case for biodiversity conservation. He was the world's foremost expert on ants and one of the greatest naturalists of the 20th century.
