Elaine Scarry
American literary critic and philosopher whose The Body in Pain examined the structure of physical pain and its relationship to language, culture, and power. On Beauty and Being Just argued for the connection between aesthetic and ethical response. She is one of the most original and wide-ranging American humanists.
