Erasmus Desiderius

The supreme humanist scholar of the Northern Renaissance, Erasmus edited the Greek New Testament, produced scholarly editions of Church Fathers, and wrote The Praise of Folly, the greatest satirical essay of the period. His quarrel with Luther over free will is one of the defining debates of Reformation thought.
