American Marxist literary critic whose Postmodernism, or, The Cultural Logic of Late Capitalism is the most important Marxist analysis of postmodern culture. The Political Unconscious proposed a method for reading literary texts in relation to their historical context. He is the most systematic Marxist critic in the Anglo-American tradition.
