Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak
Indian literary theorist and translator whose essay Can the Subaltern Speak? is the most discussed text in postcolonial studies, asking whether those marginalized by colonialism can speak in their own voice within colonial discourse. Her translation of Derrida's Of Grammatology introduced deconstruction to the English-speaking world.
