George MacDonald was a Scottish author, poet, and Christian minister whose fantasy novels Phantastes and Lilith helped establish the tradition of adult literary fantasy. His fairy tales for children including The Princess and the Goblin directly influenced C.S. Lewis, who credited MacDonald with turning his imagination toward Christianity and fantasy. He is considered a founding father of modern fantasy.
