Giorgio Agamben
Italian philosopher whose Homo Sacer series uses the Roman figure of the person who can be killed but not sacrificed to analyze modern biopolitics, sovereignty, and the state of exception. His work became urgently relevant after 9/11 and the War on Terror. He is one of the most widely translated philosophers of his generation.
