Herodotus of Halicarnassus

The 'Father of History,' Herodotus wrote the first major prose narrative in the Western tradition—an account of the Persian Wars that ranged across geography, ethnography, and divine causality. His curiosity about foreign cultures and his willingness to entertain multiple accounts make him the first comparative historian.
