Hope Mirrlees was a British author whose Lud-in-the-Mist is one of the forgotten masterpieces of fantasy literature, a story about a prosperous merchant town uncomfortably adjacent to the land of Faerie. It influenced Neil Gaiman, Lin Carter, and many others. Her poetic fantasy anticipated many themes of later twentieth-century literary fantasy.
