Jean Baudrillard
French sociologist and cultural theorist whose concept of simulacra—copies without originals—became a touchstone for understanding postmodern culture. Simulacra and Simulation argued that contemporary reality has been replaced by its representations. His work influenced The Matrix and a generation of cultural critics.
