Jeremy Bentham
English philosopher who founded utilitarianism, the doctrine that the greatest good for the greatest number should be the guiding principle of law and morals. He designed the Panopticon prison and requested that his body be preserved as an 'auto-icon' after death—a wish still on display at University College London.
