Jerry Pournelle was an American science fiction author and political commentator who wrote both solo and in collaboration with Larry Niven. The Mote in God's Eye is considered one of the finest first contact novels ever written. He was also a pioneering technology columnist and an advocate for the Strategic Defense Initiative.
