Joanna Baillie
Scottish playwright and poet who proposed a bold theory of drama—that each play should explore a single passion taken to its extreme. Her Plays on the Passions were admired by Scott and Byron. She was among the most celebrated writers in Britain during her lifetime but was forgotten after her death.
