John Maynard Keynes
British economist whose General Theory of Employment, Interest and Money provided the theoretical basis for government intervention in the economy to prevent recessions. His ideas shaped Western economic policy for a generation after World War II. He was also a member of the Bloomsbury Group and a significant patron of the arts.
