John Muir

Scottish-American naturalist and conservationist who founded the Sierra Club and campaigned for the preservation of Yosemite and other wilderness areas. His lyrical descriptions of the natural world in My First Summer in the Sierra are among the finest in American nature writing. He persuaded President Theodore Roosevelt to protect millions of acres.
