Mexican novelist and short story writer whose slim oeuvre—Pedro Paramo and the stories in The Burning Plain—exerted an influence on world literature out of all proportion to its volume. Garcia Marquez claimed he could not have written One Hundred Years of Solitude without Rulfo.
