Lawrence Durrell was a British novelist, poet, and travel writer best known for The Alexandria Quartet, a tetralogy of novels set in Alexandria, Egypt, that is celebrated for its experimental structure and lyrical prose. He was a close friend of Henry Miller and is considered one of the most gifted stylists in modern English literature.
