Livy Titus Livius

Ab Urbe Condita

Monumental history of Rome from its founding through the imperial period

About the author

Livy Titus Livius

Rome's most ambitious historian, Livy wrote a history of Rome in 142 books from its founding to his own time. His prose is rhetorical and moralistic, celebrating Roman virtue and deploring Roman decline. Only 35 books survive, but they include the finest narratives of early Roman history.
