Maj Sjöwall
Maj Sjöwall, writing with her partner Per Wahlöö, created the Martin Beck series, the founding texts of modern Scandinavian crime fiction. Their explicitly Marxist police procedurals used the detective novel as a vehicle for radical social criticism. Their influence on all subsequent Nordic crime writing is immeasurable.
