Manuel Vázquez Montalbán
Manuel Vázquez Montalbán was a Spanish novelist, journalist, and poet whose Pepe Carvalho series, set in Barcelona and featuring a disillusioned ex-Communist private detective, was one of the most important in European crime fiction. His novels combined detective fiction with social satire and gastronomy in a uniquely Spanish way. He received the International Crime Fiction Prize.
