Saint Manuel Bueno Martyr

Spanish philosopher and novelist whose The Tragic Sense of Life is a passionate meditation on the conflict between reason and the longing for immortality. He was rector of the University of Salamanca and a public opponent of the Franco regime. He died under house arrest.
