Murray Leinster was the pen name of American author William Fitzgerald Jenkins, who was one of the most prolific and beloved pulp science fiction writers. His 1945 story First Contact is one of the most influential science fiction stories ever written, posing the question of how two mutually suspicious species could avoid destroying each other. He won the Hugo Award for The Exploration Team.
