Paule Marshall
American novelist and short-story writer of Barbadian descent whose work pioneered the literary exploration of the African diaspora. Brown Girl, Brownstones is a foundational novel of Caribbean-American literature. She influenced a generation of writers from Toni Morrison to Jamaica Kincaid.
