Paulo Freire
Brazilian educator and philosopher whose Pedagogy of the Oppressed is the most widely cited book in education studies worldwide. His concept of 'conscientization'—critical consciousness of one's social situation—became the foundation of liberation education globally. He was exiled from Brazil after the 1964 coup.
