Pedro Calderón de la Barca
Spain's greatest Baroque dramatist, Calderón wrote over 200 plays combining theological complexity with spectacular stagecraft. Life Is a Dream is one of the masterpieces of world theater, exploring identity, free will, and illusion. He later became a priest and wrote elaborate sacramental plays.
