German-Swedish playwright whose Marat/Sade combined the ideas of Artaud and Brecht in a play-within-a-play of electrifying theatrical power. The Investigation documented the Frankfurt Auschwitz trials in documentary verse. His work is the most challenging fusion of politics and experimental form in postwar German theater.
