The founder of Neoplatonism, Plotinus developed a mystical philosophy of the soul's emanation from and return to the One. His Enneads, edited by his student Porphyry, profoundly shaped Christian, Jewish, and Islamic thought. He is the last major original philosopher of antiquity.
