Reginald F. Lewis was the first African American to build a billion-dollar business enterprise, completing the leveraged buyout of Beatrice International Foods in 1987 for $985 million—at the time the largest offshore leveraged buyout in history. His posthumously published memoir remains a landmark of American business biography.
