Robert E. Howard was an American pulp fiction author who created Conan the Barbarian, Solomon Kane, and Kull of Atlantis, essentially founding the sword and sorcery subgenre. His intensely physical and atmospheric stories appeared in Weird Tales magazine throughout the 1920s and 1930s. Though he died at thirty by suicide, his characters have achieved cultural immortality.
