Serena

Ron Rash is an American poet and novelist from the Appalachian South whose crime novel Serena was a major critical success, depicting a ruthless female villain in Depression-era North Carolina. His One Foot in Eden and his short stories draw on the crime and horror tradition in a deeply literary way. He is considered one of the finest writers of Appalachian fiction.
