The great dramatist of the Irish working class, O'Casey wrote plays about the Dublin tenements during the Easter Rising and the Civil War that combined tragedy, comedy, and social protest. His masterpiece The Plough and the Stars caused riots at the Abbey Theatre. He later moved to England after disputes with Yeats.
