American novelist whose A Naked Singularity is a massive, maximalist novel about a public defender in New York that was self-published before winning the PEN/Robert W. Bingham Prize. His fiction is an extraordinary outsider achievement. He is one of the most eccentric and original voices in American literary fiction.
