Stephen Jay Gould
American paleontologist and science writer who proposed the theory of punctuated equilibrium with Niles Eldredge and wrote some of the best popular science essays of the 20th century. The Mismeasure of Man was a devastating critique of scientific racism. His Natural History columns were collected in eight volumes.
