Thucydides of Athens

The first strictly analytical historian, Thucydides wrote the History of the Peloponnesian War with rigorous attention to evidence, causation, and human psychology. His account of the Melian Dialogue and the Athenian plague are among the most powerful passages in ancient literature. He is the father of political realism.
