Upton Sinclair

American novelist and muckraking journalist whose The Jungle exposed conditions in Chicago meatpacking plants and led directly to the Pure Food and Drug Act of 1906. He ran for Governor of California in 1934 nearly winning. He said he aimed for the heart but hit the stomach.
