William Hope Hodgson was an early 20th-century horror writer who created visionary sea horrors and cosmic nightmares that influenced H.P. Lovecraft. The House on the Borderland is a proto-cosmic horror masterpiece, and his Carnacki stories pioneered the occult detective genre. He died in WWI before his extraordinary talent could fully mature.
