William Peter Blatty was an American novelist and filmmaker whose The Exorcist is one of the most terrifying and culturally significant horror novels ever written. The film adaptation he also produced became one of the most successful and controversial horror films in cinema history. His theological concerns gave the novel a depth unusual in the genre.
