Ambrose Bierce was an American journalist and satirist whose short horror stories are among the finest in American literature. An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge and his tales of the supernatural are masterpieces of psychological terror and ironic horror. His Devil's Dictionary is a classic of sardonic wit. He disappeared mysteriously in Mexico in 1914.
