Ann Cleeves is a British crime writer who created two of the most popular detective series in contemporary British fiction, the Vera Stanhope series set in Northumbria and the Shetland series. Both have been adapted into hugely successful television dramas. She has received the Crime Writers' Association Diamond Dagger for lifetime achievement.
