Antonio Damasio
Portuguese-American neuroscientist who proposed the somatic marker hypothesis—that emotions are essential to rational decision-making. Descartes' Error challenged the mind-body dualism at the heart of Western philosophy. His work bridging neuroscience and philosophy has been enormously influential.
